Before entering bariatric medicine, she did an internship in internal medicine at University of California, Davis, served as an associate physician for Sacramento County Health Department and as lead physician for Sacramento Occupational Group.
Her extensive background in primary care and her scientific approach to nutrition have enabled her to develop a range of highly effective nutritional programs that are safe even in complicated medical settings.
Dr Elvebakk believes everyone can be taught to be normal weight. She has devoted her career to dispelling dieting fads and myths, showing that good nutrition reverses obesity and metabolic illness.
She has appeared as an expert commentator on most Bay Area TV channels and written several columns.
She lends her expertise as a consultant to the bariatric surgery program at Alta Bates Hospital and is on the roster of medical examiners of the Board of Bariatric Medicine.
Her book "The Food Tree" demystifies nutrition and holds the keys to changing our obesity epidemic.
